PTBP based Neoprene Adhesive Grade Resin Supra - NG 2001(For Upgrading of Poly Chloroprene Contact Adhesives) Technical Memorandum Description
SUPRA-NG 2001 is alkyl based heat reactive resin supplied in lump form. This has been designed specially for upgrading neoprene based contact adhesives in terms of thermal stability. The resin can be directly mixed into rubber solutions. It is soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters and particularly soluble in alphatic hydrocarbons. Advantages
SUPRA-NG 2001 is used to raise the melting point of Neoprene. Neoprene has a low melting point and its bond strength is greatly reduced at temperatures over 30°C (86°F) which are normally encountered in tropical countries. SUPRA-NG 2001 helps in retaining the bond strength at higher temperatures up to 60°C (140°F). SUPRA-NG 2001 has a stabilizing effect on neoprene adhesives. It does not react with Zinc Oxide. Typical Properties
Appearance | Clear Pale Yellow Lumps | Specific Gravity @ 25°C | 1.03 – 1.105 | Softening Point (°C) | 85-95 | Methylol Content (%) | 13-16 | Solubility in Toluene | Excellent
We suggest that an adhesive based on Neoprene and SUPRA-NG 2001 should be produced along the following lines.
Neoprene A.C. or W | 100 parts by wt. | Magnesium Oxide | 4 parts by wt. | SUPRA-NG 2001 | 30-45 parts by wt. | Xylol | 150 parts by wt.
This resin reacts with Magnesium Oxide to form a modified resin and correctly formulated adhesive incorporating SUPRA-NG 2001 would give bonds, which show no deterioration at higher temperatures upto 60°C (140°F). |
